Employment Hubs - Our Place Project

The 'Our Place' project is a national initiative to empower and resource local people to make a positive difference in their communities. Take a look at the video below if you would like to know more.

In West Somerset the focus of the 'Our Place' project is to provide all the services and support people need to find work and to do that locally, in the heart of the community. For some this might just mean having access to an internet-enabled computer to apply for jobs online (and a friendly helping-hand from someone who knows how they work if required). Other people might benefit from learning some new skills... and find they have skills that they can pass on to others too. Still others might have a great idea and all the necessary skills but need help with starting their own business.

Whatever the need, the new Community Employment Hubs in Watchet (at The Sanctuary) and Williton (at the Children's Centre) aim to provide all the support necessary for people to find work...all in a relaxed, café-style environment over a cuppa and a piece of cake!

Could you help people in your community find a job? If the answer’s 'yes' you could be the just the volunteer we need to help staff two Community Employment Hubs in Watchet and Williton. To become a volunteer you do not need any particular skills or qualifications, other than the desire to help others access the job market using good common sense and general life experiences, as well as enthusiasm and the ability to motivate others.  If you think you could be a volunteer, please 'Contact Us' or contact Colleen Blake at West Somerset Council on 01984 635221.
