Danesfield School opens new ‘Sanctuary’ Prayer Room

Danesfield Middle School in Williton opened a dedicated Prayer Room (aptly named The Sanctuary) in the school in September, and a few weeks ago the School Council and members of staff were joined by the Bishop of Taunton and local church leaders for the official opening.

Elements: Art @ The Sanctuary

A new exhibition, first seen in the Watchet Music Festival Prayer Tent over the August Bank Holiday weekend, is now on display at The Sanctuary. Four paintings depicting the ‘elements’ (air, earth, fire and water) inspired by the Bible and produced by four of our talented artists. Do take a look when you're down there - they’ll remain on display throughout October and part of November. The Sanctuary is open to all on Monday & Wednesday afternoons 3-5pm, Friday 5-7pm for the weekly Community Meal, and at other times for specific groups & events (see 'What's on' page of the website www.thesanctuary.org.uk) including a regular Art Group on Friday mornings – contact us for more details.

On Mon 4th April 2016, 50 young people from Spring Harvest festival in Minehead came across to Watchet to help make a difference in our community. They gardened at our local school, picked up litter on our play fields, helped to run a Family Craft Afternoon in The Sanctuary and washed cars... for free! The point was to demonstrate in practical ways that the message of the Christian faith actually affects our outlook on life, the things we think are important, how we act and what we do. It was also a lot of fun!

The Sanctuary gets an award!

Watchet Town Council recognised the work of The Sanctuary in our local community on Tues 21st April by awarding our volunteers the Millington Shield - given each year to a local community organisation "to highlight the most valuable contribution they have made to the town". We're delighted!

MAD International are a UK charity based in Watchet who support needy children and families in the Philippines. Charity workers, Alan & Helen Wye, source original, hand-crafted jewellery and other handicrafts directly from skilled workers in the Philippines making sure they are paid a fair wage. The jewellery is then sold in the UK to raise funds that are sent back to the charity's workers in the Philippines where it is used to supply accommodation for those in need, purchase equipment for local schools and run a weekly feeding programme.
